If you want to create income from home, you could play right into the hands of people who will take advantage of you. Many people want to work from home so they can make their own hours, but they still think like an employee instead of an entrepreneur or business owner. If you will think in terms of building relationships, you will build income if you are continuing to learn. Continuous learning is a must and just like anything else, you must be working smart in your learning and not simply working hard.
While it is technically true that you can work when you want in your own business, you do have to satisfy clients enough to keep them around as well as business partners and potential business partners in order to keep your venture moving forward. You may need to have a conversation over the phone while both of you are in front of your computer so that you can show someone how to register or just where to go to get information.
Because so many people get tired of working for someone else and think they're going to do their business exactly the way they want to, there are people and businesses out there who are ready to help you buy into that illusion and they are more than happy to sell you their products, services and "opportunities". They will have websites that tell you that you can make automatic money or lead you to believe that all you need to do is sign up.
One thing to keep in mind is that what you actually have to do is provide value in return for value. I have been coaching a woman I know on how to use LinkedIn and other websites more effectively to network and increase her income. She paid me money because I am teaching her skills that will make her money. She gave me value for the value I have provided in return. I've been connected to LinkedIn.com for over a year, so I know a lot of ins and outs that beginners to that system would have to learn by trial and error. I had to find times to connect with her that worked for both of us.
When your choice is to be available to a business partner or not have that business partner [or client], most people are going to want to compromise and "meet" with that person over the phone. It may not always be the most convenient time for you. In a way, you are competing with other people who will make themselves available to develop a relationship with a business partner [or client]. One woman on my business team talks with me on the phone every Wednesday night. Some people get concerned about how much time this might take, but keep in mind that I am building a business relationship with her [and sometimes you will become friends in the process as I am with her] and that as her knowledge grows she will need to contact me less frequently or for shorter periods of time when she does.
If you want to build a business and don't build the relationships, you will find that a lot of your team or your clients will sooner or later drop away. I can teach you how to build relationships and build your income IF you are truly willing to take the time to learn and grow. If you're not ready, I highly recommend reading two books:
Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson
Making Work Work by Scott Hunter
